(pronounced SU-BUH-SHREE)
Therapist / Coach
Dr. Subasri Ashok is a clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, and adults across a wide range of emotional, relational, and behavioral concerns. She brings a warm, collaborative, and culturally attuned approach to therapy—meeting each client with curiosity, respect, and a deep commitment to evidence-based care. She trained in a dual-oriented doctoral program that emphasized both evidence-based and insight-oriented work, and she integrates approaches from CBT, DBT, and ACT, as well as psychodynamic and relational therapy.
Dr. Ashok works with a wide range of concerns and has expertise in them, from everyday stress, anxiety, mood based difficulties, and relationship issues to more complex and high-risk presentations, including psychosis, trauma, identity challenges, emotional dysregulation, and co-occurring conditions. Her integrative clinical style draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed care. She helps clients not only reduce suffering but build lives centred on values, meaning, and resilience, even in the presence of fear or uncertainty. She is known for her thoughtful adaptations of these models to meet the needs of each client—especially those navigating multiple stressors.
Her experience spans inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, and university counselling centres. She has led DBT, CBT, ACT and psychoeducation groups for adolescents, LGBTQ+ clients, and trauma survivors, and provides specialized support for individuals navigating serious mental illness. She is passionate about using imaginative play to increase engagement in therapy, especially among clients who may struggle with more conventional talk-based approaches. Dr Ashok also has specialized training in performance psychology and executive functioning coaching. Drawing from her experienced with high-achieving individuals and Division I athletes Dr. Ashok helps high performers strengthen their focus, emotional regulation, and resilience under pressure. Her performance work focuses on building psychological flexibility, focus, and emotional strength under pressure—skills that translate across sport, school, and life.
Dr. Ashok brings a global and culturally sensitive lens to her work. Dr. Ashok has a deep personal and professional commitment to South Asian mental health. She is attuned to the ways that culture, family expectations, identity, and migration can shape emotional wellbeing. She often works with immigrant clients navigating intergenerational conflict, perfectionism, shame, cultural stigma around mental health, and the complex task of honouring family and community dynamics while forging one’s own path.
Whether she’s working with a child struggling at school, a teenager navigating identity, or an adult facing major life shifts, Dr. Ashok offers therapy that is empowering, inclusive, and grounded in both science and humanity.
